Safety Tips When Driving Alone


When Driving

  • Always lock the doors and keep the windows closed as much as possible.
  • Keep your handbag and any valuables out of sight.
  • Any belongings left in the car should be kept in the trunk compartment
  • If you’re driving in unfamiliar territory study your route beforehand and when you expect to arrive.
  • If you think you are being followed drive straight to the nearest police station or get the attention of a traffic enforcer, or failing that go to a busy public place.
  • Trust your instincts, don’t tell yourself that your imagining things.
  • When stopped in traffic leave enough space to pull out from the car in front of you.
  • Never give a ride to strangers regardless of the circumstances.
  • Your horn can be a powerful tool when you are in trouble. Use it!
  • Tint can be a safety alternative especially for women.

 

When Parking

  • Choose a well lighted spot.
  • When parking, park facing out to enable you to drive out easily.
  • Purchase an alarm with a silent alarm option

 

When Approaching Your Car

  • Check your surroundings
  • Avoid late nights
  • When returning to your car have your keys in your hand to avoid having to search through your bag or pocket
